The Data Engineer II will play a vital role in designing and building scalable, efficient, and robust data pipelines to support reporting and analytics needs. The role involves working with modern data engineering technologies to create solutions that feed various analytics platforms, ensuring alignment with business requirements. The ideal candidate will bring technical expertise, a problem-solving mindset, and the ability to collaborate across teams.
Responsibilities:
Data Engineering:
Design and model data engineering pipelines to support reporting and analytics needs.
Engineer efficient and scalable data pipelines to move data from diverse sources into a cloud lakehouse environment.
Develop and deploy performance optimization methodologies for existing data processes.
Solution Design:
Understand business requirements and translate them into well-architected data solutions for BI and analytics platforms.
Participate in data modernization projects, establishing guidelines and providing technical direction.
Collaboration and Optimization:
Collaborate with data technology and business information teams to design optimized data flows.
Identify, escalate, and resolve issues proactively to ensure timely delivery of data solutions.
Required Skills:
7+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on data pipelines, data operations, scripting, and SQL.
5+ years of experience in data modeling, including design for data warehousing and analytics use cases.
2-3 years of experience with modern data architectures, including cloud platforms like Snowflake and Azure.
Proficiency in data engineering tools and techniques, such as ETL/ELT, Hive, Spark, and data modeling tools.
Advanced programming skills in at least one language, such as Java or Python.
Hands-on experience with DevOps/DataOps and orchestration tools like Apache Airflow or Ctrl-M.
Strong knowledge of modern reporting tools like Power BI or MicroStrategy is a plus.
Experience working in an Agile environment is preferred.
Desired Skills:
Familiarity with StreamSets and dbt for data transformations.
Knowledge of retail domains is a plus.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts in simple terms.
