Did you know that Valio is the biggest exporter of food products in Finland? Every week about 200 shipping containers filled with Valio products are exported around the world. We export milk powders, butter, cheese and consumer products to around 50 countries. Valio's value-added ingredients (special milk powders) are used as an ingredient e.g. in baby foods, in the chocolate and confectionery industry, and in dietary supplements for athletes and the elderly.

We, in BU Powders, are working in close cooperation with other Valio functions and subsidiaries in a result-oriented way. In line with our strategic initiatives, we continue to enforce our Portfolio development team and are looking for Development Specialist, Export to join our team and support market entry initiatives. The position is permanent and based in Helsinki.  

In this role, you will play a crucial part in ensuring that the company efficiently commercializes products into new markets while complying with relevant regulations and standards. This position requires an understanding of regulatory requirements, adeptness in commercialization, business mindset and great networking capabilities.  

You will be responsible for developing the regulatory processes within our organization ensuring data from diverse sources is integrated and utilized optimally. The role calls for a forward-thinking individual with a proactive approach to collaborate with diverse external and internal stakeholders to ensure seamless entry to new markets in a global market environment. In addition to the development aspect of the role, you will also need to handle important hands-on tasks and supportive responsibilities, such as coordinating and submitting export and regulatory documents to relevant stakeholders. 

Key responsibilities:

  • Enable efficient introduction of products to new markets  

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as the Business unit, R&D, Quality Assurance and Production to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards 

  • Collaborate with external parties such as distributors, clients and authorities to support efficient market entry 

  • Coordinate and submit regulatory and export documents to relevant authorities, customers and distributors.   

  • Support different stakeholders to form scenarios and evaluate the opportunities against the potential risks associated with entering new markets 

  • Monitor and interpret regulatory changes and trends, and communicate their impact to the relevant stakeholders 

  • Provide regulatory guidance on product development projects and registrations initiatives 

  • Design and implement processes for effective data integration from multiple platforms and internal stakeholders, ensuring the accessibility of regulatory information 

  • Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline regulatory market entry operations and data management practices to enhance efficiency 

 Expectations for the role: 

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Food Science or a related field 

  • Experience in regulatory affairs and export processes, with a proven track record of successfully commercializing products into new markets  

  • Experience working with industry authorities is beneficial  

  • Impressive communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with stakeholders 

  • Strong influencing skills and courage to contact with different external stakeholders 

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is essential, Finnish and other languages beneficial   

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team 

  • Comprehensive understanding of FDA, USDA, and other relevant regulatory bodies' requirements and guidelines are beneficial  

  • Ability to apply regulatory knowledge and integrate it with a business-oriented approach 

  • Business driven and solution-focused mindset 

  • Proven experience in process development and data management 

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills 

  • Proven competence in managing multiple projects simultaneously
