Job Purpose and Background:
Are you a skilled Fullstack Developer with experience in developing scalable, secure, and high-performance websites and digital platforms? The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is looking for an experienced Full-stack Developer to join our growing Technology and Data Team.
The selected candidate will play a crucial role in improving and scaling the SBTi website, ensuring a secure and robust web experience. You will also contribute to the development of the technical architecture and infrastructure of the SBTi’s digital platforms, with a focus on leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and DevOps practices to optimize performance, security, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-performance web applications using modern frontend and backend technologies, such as React, Node Js, Python, and PHP.
- Ensure the seamless integration of frontend and backend systems, optimizing both user experience and performance.
- Implement CI/CD pipelines to streamline deployment processes, using DevOps (GCP) best practices for automated testing, scalability, and cloud-based infrastructure management.
- Leverage Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tools and services to manage application scaling, security, and reliability.
- Optimize and maintain API integrations to ensure efficient data flow between the web platform and external systems or databases, prioritizing automation and performance.
- Ensure code quality and performance through automated testing, peer reviews, and continuous improvement of coding standards and best practices.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data engineers, designers, and IT security, to develop and implement secure, efficient, and maintainable solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across both frontend and backend systems, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption to users.
- Stay updated with the latest trends in Web development, DevOps, and cloud technologies to continuously improve the web platform's architecture and performance.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Expertise in both frontend and backend development, particularly with React, HTML/CSS, JavaScript, Python, PHP, and Node.js.
- Strong experience in deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Proficient in DevOps practices, including automation and CI/CD pipeline management.
- Solid understanding of API integrations and secure data exchange.
- Ability to troubleshoot across the full stack and optimize system performance.
- Familiarity with agile methodologies and collaborative tools like Asana.
- Strong communication skills (English language), especially in technical and cross-functional settings.
Desirable Skills:
- Experience working with JSON and handling cookies or tokens for web security.
- Knowledge of Figma or similar design tools to collaborate seamlessly with design teams.
- Strong understanding of web security protocols and how to manage vulnerabilities.

This is a full-time role based in Berlin, Germany. The salary for this role will be dependent on location and level of experience.
This role is a fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension and will be reporting to the Head of Technology.
Interested candidates should be legally allowed to work in the countries specified. The SBTi cannot sponsor any working visas.
