The School of Business is seeking qualified professionals to serve as Part-time Curriculum Developers to create courses for a new Employee Benefits and Retirement Professional Certificate, a part-time program offered through Continuing Education. Applications are welcomed for the following courses: HRM1480 - Managing Benefit Plans I This course offers a strategic approach for evaluating benefit needs and selecting an appropriate mix of life and health benefits from the continuum of options available. Financial and premium rate-setting considerations essential to managing plan-sponsor financial risk and factors impacting benefit administration decisions are covered, and the roles of insurers and other specialized service providers in supporting effective benefits plan management are explored. HRM1510 - Managing Retirement Plans I Managing Retirement Plans 1 examines what is involved in decision making around retirement plan management and factors such as tax and pension standards legislation that impact design, funding and administration options available to plan sponsors as well as plan governance requirements. Learning is supported with regulatory guidance and industry-based practice guidelines for employer-sponsored retirement plans of all types, whether pension or non-pension. Part-Time Curriculum Developers will develop 42-hour courses to be delivered in an online format. The primary tasks for content creation are writing new course materials and curating existing content to ensure an equivalent of 42 hours of teaching (lectures and activities) per week. Assessments will also need to be created based on weekly content. Part-time Curriculum Developers will follow the quality guidelines and processes of Conestoga’s School of Business and receive course development and technical support throughout their work. The position will meet the needs of the School of Business through a remote work schedule. The project timeline is approximately six months between January and June 2025. Responsibilities Develop and curate all course content, including weekly PowerPoint slides, detailed assessments, grading rubrics, instructional plan, lesson plans/teaching materials, and activities Post course materials to the online learning environment and set up tools (e.g., gradebook) Attend orientation and regular check-in meetings with a Program and Course Development Consultant Provide regular progress updates and revise course materials based on feedback Collaborate with appropriate internal departments (e.g. Library, Bookstore, Curriculum Planning & Operations) Effectively manage a series of online folders and document versions Produce and submit content and activities according to project timelines (i.e., work is required to be completed iteratively throughout the project and cannot be done all at once within a short timeframe) Engage in a final review to ensure materials align with School of Business quality standards Qualifications Minimum of a four-year degree in Business or a related field of study is required Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designation is required Minimum 5+ years of experience in employee benefits and/or retirement planning is required Experience teaching in a variety of adult education contexts Demonstrated capability to write and create engaging curriculum Superior time and project management skills to meet required deadlines Strong computer skills and demonstrated experience incorporating relevant educational technologies in the field Knowledge and experience using course/learning management systems (e.g., D2L Brightspace) is an asset Excellent communication, interpersonal, intercultural, and collaboration skills Able to work independently with little direct supervision #LI-POST #LI-REMOTE Conestoga College is a leader in polytechnic education.
