Role Description
The Sr. Infrastructure Specialist will participate in all aspects of software development, application infrastructure support, leadership, and maintenance within the IC Tech division of Canada Life. This position demands an excellent knowledge of Technical practices and standards and the ability to work effectively as a member of a larger, multi-disciplinary team. We currently have an opening for a Sr. Infrastructure Specialist to work within a diverse environment, focusing primarily with Server Infrastructure, thick and thin client applications, Azure, and vendor applications. Experience in application infrastructure is an asset: Security, Risk & Compliance, Environmental Setups, Software Upgrades, DBA and Change Management. Experience communicating with Sr. Leadership, vendors and customers is an asset.
What you will do:
Sr. Infrastructure Specialists are responsible for the design and development of software solutions.
Design, develop, integrate, test, transition to production and maintain software applications
Provide production support and application monitoring and tuning for applications
Participate in project planning
Be able to Lead a team of Technical Professionals
Provide input into the evolution of the software development environment and methods
Provide ongoing daily production support and remediation of business applications within the Individual Customer line of business – including the development and execution of test plans
Being part of a daytime queue rotation to support and troubleshoot issue with our applications
Being part of the 24/7 on-call rotation for monitoring incidents
Contribute to the elimination of problems through permanent fixes including the identification of solutions, scoping the work, and executing the changes
Task management for themselves as well assisting other group members
Complete scheduled maintenance, legislative changes and changes required to optimize and streamline the existing application inventory.
Trouble shoot application problems, and maintain an inventory of expertise for identified problems
Complete development assignments as assigned through your team leader and negotiated with project teams
Create and/or update software development expertise and best practices
Liaise and provide consulting support for applications to project teams
Occasional after hours and weekend work will be required
What you will bring:
Degree/diploma in related discipline (computer science) or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Training or knowledge and experience with:
Strong leadership skills
Familiarity with various development languages is an asset including API’s, SQL, Azure and other Web Based solutions
Familiarity with various database’s
Having worked as a Software Developer is an asset
IT experience and the ability to understand and effectively work with various technologies and contribute as applications evolve and are migrated to new platforms.
Experience as part of a queue rotation, handling calls, working with incident-based software (Remedy or Service Now), troubleshooting issues
Strong customer service and communication skills.
Demonstrated initiative and creativity.
Understanding how to impact and influence and the ability to challenge
Software design methodologies and documentation tools
Software requirements analysis and design principles
Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems
Demonstrated ability to work both individually and as part of a team, plan and organize your own work, communicate effectively in writing and verbally, initiative, team-oriented leadership skills and attention to detail
Ability to work remotely
The base salary for this position is between $61000 - $114000 annually. This represents base salary only and does not represent other variable compensation components of our total compensation ( i.e. annual bonus, commission etc).
