The ideal candidate will play a critical role in maintaining, enhancing, and supporting Mainframe systems to meet evolving business needs. This position requires an expert in z/OS, IDMS related system and utilities, COBOL, ADS/o, and JCL. They must also possess a strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions and analysis of Mainframe systems.
Key Responsibilities:
System Development, Maintenance & Problem Resolution:- Analyze business requirements and translate them into robust and mainframe application designs.
Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe programs using in z/OS, IDMS, COBOL, ADS/o, and JCL to ensure functionality aligns with business objectives.
Perform comprehensive testing to validate solutions before deployment.
Further develop the Mainframe application to implement enhancements and resolve issues as per business requirements.
Troubleshoot production issues by analyzing logs, debugging code, and resolving errors to ensure minimal downtime.
Provide root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement permanent solutions to prevent future disruptions.
Collaborate with other IT teams to resolve complex cross-platform integration problems.
Mainframe Database Management:
Design, implement, and maintain IDMS database structures to support application development and business requirements.
Monitor Mainframe performance, conduct capacity planning and resolution to ensure ongoing sustainability.
Coordinate with key database administrators and stakeholders to ensure proper backup, recovery, and data security procedures are followed and executed.
Documentation, Integration & Collaboration:
Collaborate with technical enterprise and modernization teams to integrate or document mainframe systems related to batch jobs, APIs, shared drives, or mainframe application functionality.
Prepare and maintain detailed technical documentation, including program specifications, user guides, system workflows, and architectural diagrams.
Work closely with business analysts to understand end-user requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
Act as a liaison between the mainframe team and other IT teams to facilitate seamless cross-platform development and support.
Ensure all system changes and enhancements are documented and approved according to organizational protocols.
Engage with business stakeholders to provide technical insights, explain system functionalities, and recommend solutions to business challenges.
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) for mainframe systems during audits, technical discussions, and strategy meetings.
Qualifications:
The resource must be located within Canada.
Appropriately manage project team lead and client expectations on work assignments and responses to quality issues.
Understand timelines and identify issues impacting timeline as necessary.
Provide accurate estimates for work assigned as requested.
Provide regular status updates to the Team Lead.
Must be able to work in a self-sufficient manner and must be a good team player.
Must possess a commitment to high quality deliverables.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills with both clients and team members.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
Equivalent experience may be considered .
Mandatory Skills, Certifications and Experience Technical Skills:
8+ years of experience in mainframe application development and maintenance.
6+ years of experience in mainframe IDMS development and maintenance.
Extensive experience with z/OS, RACF, IDMS related system and utilities (IDD, ADSA, ADSC, ADSO, MAPC, OLQ), COBOL, ADS/o, and JCL technologies.
Experience with IDMS replication tool Experience in database management with OCF, SCHEMA, SSC.
Proven track record in debugging, performance tuning, and problem resolution in mainframe environments.
Proficiency in mainframe emulators such as Quick3270 and TN3270 Plus.
Strong knowledge of batch and online processing.
