Description Epoch AI is seeking a Software Engineer to update and maintain our website—the main repository of our research—support the development of a data visualization library, and generally assist researchers with tasks and projects requiring coding. The new library, which is already partially developed, will allow researchers to easily create interactive graphs. The role will also involve implementing both minor and major updates to the website, uploading new content, monitoring traffic, and supporting research projects with software engineering needs. Your efforts will be crucial in improving our website and our research publication workflows, and communicating our research findings to our global community, directly influencing how our work is perceived and understood. The successful candidate will report to Eduardo Infante Roldán, Epoch’s principal software engineer, and work closely with the rest of the development team and with the design and research teams. This role is fully remote, and we are able to hire in many countries. We accept both full-time and part-time applicants, but with a strong preference for full-time candidates. Key Responsibilities Providing support with management and implementation of our interactive data visualization library to allow researchers to easily create interactive graphs. For example, adding new chart types and implementing new interactive features, or re-factoring code. Publishing new research and implementing other updates to the website. Including implementing data visualization charts. Incorporating website improvements as designed by Epoch’s product designer. Identifying and discussing with the team opportunities for improving the website. Occasionally assisting researchers with research projects that require software engineering. Provide support in monitoring and improving website traffic. What We Are Looking For Front-end development experience in HTML + CSS + JS. Experience with Python and data visualization programming tools such as Pyplot or Plotly. This is what our researchers use, and familiarity with these tools will be needed in order to build the data visualization library Interest in artificial intelligence and Epoch’s mission specifically. Experience and comfort with working in a fast-paced environment, e.g. a tech startup. Nice to have Back-end development experience Experience with modern web development workflows and project management in fast-paced environments, balancing competing priorities while working autonomously. Familiarity with artificial intelligence, and especially with Epoch’s research. Flexibility with your work schedule Our team works across several time zones and we take deadlines seriously, which benefits from flexibility for meetings and key responsibilities when collaborating with team members in other time zones. What We Offer Annual salary between $70,000 - $85,000 USD pre-tax for a full-time position, prorated for part-time work. The exact salary will depend on previous relevant experience Payments are not restricted to USD, and may be made in different currencies and payment intervals depending on the location of applicants and legal requirements. Conversions from USD are based on a 1-year-average exchange rate that is updated annually.
