As the Software Engineering Manager within the Connectivity Services Group, you will play a crucial role in the success of our Remote Software Update solutions (including Firmware & Parameters). You will lead both internal teams and external partners in developing groundbreaking applications and back-end solutions that are essential to our product offerings. This position entails full end-to-end responsibility for designing, developing, and maintaining Remote Software Update solutions, with key responsibilities including:

• Defining and prioritizing product features
• Translating customer needs into technical solutions
• Managing the development roadmap
• Facilitating communication between the product development team and
stakeholders
• Ensuring the realization of the product vision

Additionally, you will be responsible for designing and developing the next-generation Electrical Engineering Documentation System. In this capacity, you will:
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address business and technical challenges in electrical engineering documentation and release processes.
• Identify gaps in current tools and processes, then work within your team and with partners to create best-in-class solutions.
• Focus on delivering exceptional customer experiences while considering key factors such as latency, security, and usability.

Position offers a starting salary range of $153,500 - $196,000 USD

Pay offered dependent on knowledge, skills, and experience​

What You Drive at DTNA

As the Software Engineering Manager within the Connectivity Services Group, you will lead both the technical and strategic aspects of the team, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality products and solutions. You will drive product development, align software architecture with business objectives, and manage both tactical execution and team leadership responsibilities.

Product Development & Operations

  • Lead Product Development & Level 2 Support: Facilitate collaboration within your team and with other agile teams and development partners. Motivate team members to align with the product vision and contribute to feature development through backlog grooming, prioritization, and sprint planning. Ensure high product quality by driving sprint reviews and retrospectives.

  • Requirements Gathering & Elicitation: Collect and document clear, detailed product requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria from Product Managers. Maintain an organized and up-to-date product backlog that reflects business priorities. Lead solution requirements for POCs, MVPs, MSPs, and action plans, managing strategic growth opportunities from inception through to completion.

  • Research/Testing & Insights: Translate customer feedback into actionable product improvements, writing user stories with acceptance criteria for new features. Oversee testing to ensure the highest product quality and customer satisfaction. Provide valuable insights about product performance and help drive innovation by sharing findings with the team and stakeholders.

Software Architecture & Strategy

  • Shape the Software Architecture Vision: Lead the development of the software architecture vision and strategic roadmap, ensuring alignment with the company’s broader business objectives and innovation roadmap.

  • Lead Design & Architecture: Oversee the design and architecture of scalable, high-performance IoT platforms and connected vehicle solutions, ensuring they align with long-term goals.

  • Security & Compliance: Align with the Security team to incorporate Security by Design principles into all Telematics products, ensuring compliance and adherence to best practices.

  • Balance Innovation with Reliability: Manage the lifecycle of technology stacks while ensuring the continued development of new features. Maintain system reliability while fostering continuous innovation.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Cultivate Partnerships: Engage with stakeholders across the organization, ensuring effective communication and alignment of priorities in a global environment. Drive collaboration to ensure resource availability and continuous improvement.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with the wider engineering community across Daimler Truck North America, Mercedes-Benz Trucks, and Daimler Trucks Asia, aligning on goals, roadmaps, and shared initiatives.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build High-Performance Teams: Foster a high-performance, collaborative engineering team, driving success using agile and DevOps principles. Provide leadership and guidance to help the team achieve both technical excellence and business outcomes.

  • Recruit & Develop Talent: Lead the recruitment of top engineering talent and support the development and growth of the team through mentorship, training, and providing growth opportunities.

  • Mentorship & Leadership: Guide the development of high-quality, maintainable code by mentoring and leading senior engineers and software development teams. Establish and uphold software engineering best practices, including microservices architecture, API design, and cloud-native development.

  • Foster a Culture of Innovation: Cultivate a culture of innovation and continuous improvement across all stages of the software development lifecycle, encouraging new ideas and creative problem-solving.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited institution, or eight years of relevant experience.

  • Experience in leading people with emphasis of building high-performance teams and retaining talent.

  • 5 years of Technical Leadership of complex digital products.

  • 5 years of experience developing cloud software services and an understanding of design for scalability, performance, and reliability.

  • Understanding of in-vehicle network architecture, modules, and protocols (e.g., CAN, J1939, etc.). ​

  • Proficient in project management tools such as JIRA, Confluence, or cplace.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage across cultures and regions.

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities and relationships in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience presenting to leadership teams.

  • Strong self-management and reflective mindset.

  • Eagerness to explore new topics and continuously learn.

Exceptional Candidates Might have

  • Proven experience as a Product Owner or similar role in the telematics industry, with a focus on commercial trucking.

  • Agile certification.

  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and/or distributed systems.

  • Knowledge of Vehicle Development process.

  • Understanding of data analysis, statistical methods, and related query languages. (jql, sql, python, java, matlab).

  • Proven history of delivering commercial solutions with software engineering teams.

  • Understanding of Azure cloud concepts especially emphasis on IOT data analytics.

  • Experience in driving data quality within the organization.
