DataDirect Networks, Inc. (DDN) is seeking a Sr. Staff Firmware Engineer.
This is a remote position and reports to the Sr. Director - Flash Products.
DataDirect Networks, Inc. (DDN) is seeking a Sr. Staff Firmware Engineer to contribute to the design, development, and optimization of high-performance firmware solutions for next-generation flash storage products, powering AI, HPC, and enterprise cloud environments. With 12+ years of experience in embedded systems and firmware development, the ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in storage systems, particularly non-volatile memory technologies, and will play a critical role in advancing DDN's product lines for AI-driven computing.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the development and optimization of embedded firmware for cutting-edge flash storage devices, ensuring performance, scalability, and reliability across AI and HPC environments.
Collaborate closely with hardware and software engineering teams to integrate and validate firmware solutions for non-volatile memory technologies.
Act as a technical expert in firmware development, guiding design decisions and contributing to the overall architecture of storage systems.
Debug, test, and troubleshoot firmware issues, ensuring seamless interaction between hardware and software components.
Drive firmware enhancements and updates, ensuring that products meet or exceed performance expectations and customer needs.
Participate in agile development processes, collaborating with cross-functional teams and using tools like Jira for task management and tracking.
Engage in the full firmware development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and deployment.
Stay current on the latest advancements in storage technology and apply industry knowledge to drive innovation within the team.
Provide mentorship to junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge-sharing efforts.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
12+ years of hands-on experience in firmware development, particularly for storage systems and non-volatile memory.
Extensive experience with NAND flash, embedded systems, and storage architectures.
Proven ability to design, develop, and deploy high-performance firmware in enterprise or HPC storage products.
Proficiency in embedded firmware debugging and testing methodologies, with a strong focus on performance optimization.
Experience working within agile teams and utilizing tools like Jira to manage tasks and project timelines.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a deep understanding of storage system performance.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate across teams and with key stakeholders.

If you clear the initial phone interview, you will enter the main process, which consists of four technical interviews:

Systems hands-on: Demonstrate practical skills in a live problem-solving session.
Project deep-dive: Present your past exceptional work to a small audience.
Meet and greet with the wider team.
Our goal is to finish the main process within one week.
