Risk Sciences International, Inc. (RSI) is a Canada-based, international leader in understanding, managing, and communicating risks that impact public health and safety, livelihoods, property, infrastructure, the environment and more broadly, all aspects of society, industry and government. RSI delivers professional scientific, analytical, operational and decision-support services that help clients make sound choices and operationalize their response to risk with confidence.
We are looking for a Statistician to join the team. Ideal candidates would have a background in mathematics, engineering, computing, life sciences or public health.
This will be a 1-year term, full time position, with possibility of becoming permanent.
The Statistician will support on-going projects in various domains of research. They will be provided with the materials needed to understand the background science for each project. They will be expected to work with team members on specialized statistical modeling applications (primarily in R).
Typical work assigned to the Statistician would include:
Statistically analyze data pertaining to diverse domains of public health (e.g., epidemiologic data), public safety, security (e.g. terrorism), and other areas
Independently research statistical and modelling methodologies to solve project-related problems
Develop software to process data and present results for non-expert end-users (e.g., Shiny)
Participate in statistical modelling pertaining to systematic scientific literature review (e.g., meta-analysis)
Prepare presentations and reports
Attend and participate in meetings with clients
The candidates (depending on their core discipline) would ideally have the following:
Experience with mathematically-based programing environments (e.g., R, Python, Matlab, Wolfram, SAS), with strong skills in R (most projects are based in R);
Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, especially with technical material;
Strong academic performance in undergraduate mathematical, science or engineering programs;
Familiarity with mathematical proofs in support of statistical analyses.
Additionally, a history of scientific publications or technical reports will be viewed favourably. If available, a complete list should be provided.
