Job Description:

The System Security Plan (SSP) Developer works closely with System Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), known as Content Providers, to create a detailed system narrative describing an information system and its security boundary. In collaboration with the System SME(s), the SSP Developer drafts responses to security controls in alignment with NIST SP 800-53 R5. These responses are documented in a Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) tool, following best practices.

The SSP Developer initiates and leads SSP Development Kickoff meetings, ensuring the SSP progresses through defined milestones and adheres to set timelines. Any identified issues are recorded as Plans of Action and Milestones (POA&Ms), which are tracked and updated regularly. The SSP Developer is responsible for maintaining and updating the SSP, reflecting changes to system components or completed POA&Ms. Additionally, they may review and provide feedback on SSPs created by other developers.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
  • Proven experience in developing, operating, and maintaining security systems.
  • Expertise in operating system and database security.
  • Strong knowledge of networking technologies, network security, and monitoring solutions.
  • Familiarity with security tools including antivirus software, content filtering, firewalls, authentication systems, and intrusion detection/notification systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of security protocols and principles.
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication abilities.
  • Extensive experience in technical writing.
  • Deep understanding of security frameworks such as NIST, HIPAA, CMS, COBIT, ITIL, and CCSFP.
  • Solid knowledge of computer security services, including Identity and Access Management, vulnerability/compliance scanning, and network security.
  • Experience in evaluating system effectiveness in meeting security controls.
  • Ability to manage small projects, including team leadership, scheduling, meeting facilitation, and status reporting.

Skills and Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical degree (preferred).
  • Certifications in security or project management, such as CISSP, CISM, or PDP.
  • Previous experience in security project management.
