Lead Developer / Tech Lead – Readiculous Product Team (EU-Based)
Copenhagen
Our vision
Mrs Wordsmith’s vision is of a world in which kids laugh out loud as they learn. Our mission is to transform the way kids learn through the combination of humour, illustration, animation and gaming. We are the world’s silliest learning company.
We’re all about literacy that works for kids, parents, and educators. Our curriculum-aligned products make learning to read, and reading to learn, fun and effective.
The company started out life with a critical insight: that kids learn more, learn faster, and have more fun learning if the materials themselves are playful.
This insight was initially manifested through a series of critically acclaimed print products that quickly became Amazon bestsellers in their category and through their own e-commerce site..
The company has moved on to develop mobile games and has big goals for its central word IP, called the WordEngine.
Staffed by a creative mix of artists, writers, curriculum specialists, data scientists and game designers, and with locations in London, Copenhagen and Mexico City, the company is poised for the next level - with your help.

The role
We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Tech Lead to join the Readiculous product team, based in the EU (ideally Copenhagen). This pivotal role bridges technical execution and product strategy, driving the development of both our core (Unity) product and the “for schools” web version (Javascript-based). The Tech Lead will collaborate closely with Product and Design leads while aligning Readiculous development with our broader platform strategy, working with the platform team to solve shared technical challenges and harmonise architecture and practices.
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Strategy
Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of the D2C Unity version as well as web-optimized schools version of Readiculous, focusing on Javascript-based technologies.
Define and drive the technical roadmap in alignment with the broader product strategy and parallel development tracks (Unity for parents/kids, web for schools).
Partner with the platform team to identify and solve strategic technical challenges, ensuring seamless integration with shared systems and infrastructure.
Serve as the technical authority for cross-platform considerations, ensuring scalable and maintainable codebases.
Collaborate with the Product Manager and design leads to enable rapid product discovery, iteration, and delivery.
Collaboration & Communication
Embed technical leadership within the EU-based lead team for tight integration with product management, game design, and UI/UX.
Act as a point of contact for cross-functional collaboration with the Titan team in Mexico, ensuring clarity in technical direction and effective handoffs.
Drive alignment between the remote development team and platform team, facilitating collaboration on technical dependencies, architecture evolution, and shared tooling.
Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, and risks transparently to stakeholders and the broader team.
Mentorship & Knowledge Building
Foster a culture of technical excellence, coaching and mentoring a team of both local and remote developers across the Readiculous team.
Champion code reviews, knowledge sharing, and best practices adoption across teams.
Delivery & Execution
Own the delivery of key milestones for the web (schools) version, balancing quality, speed, and business priorities.
Work hands-on in code as needed, especially during discovery phases or technical challenges.
Support the recruitment and onboarding of an additional EU-based developer once the transition is underway.
About you:
Proven experience as a Tech Lead, Lead Engineer, or Senior Developer with a strong focus on Javascript and web technologies (e.g., React, Node.js, Typescript).
Deep understanding of scalable architecture design, API integrations, and web optimization for cross-device experiences.
Demonstrated success in cross-team integration, working with platform teams and aligning remote development efforts.
Prior experience with product discovery processes, ideally in educational technology, games, or consumer-facing digital products.
Strong problem-solving skills, capable of balancing hands-on coding with strategic oversight.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in a cross-timezone, multi-disciplinary environment.
Ability to mentor, inspire, and uplift both local and remote developers.
Ideally located in Copenhagen (or nearby EU city).
Our culture
Mrs Wordsmith takes culture seriously. We believe in fun - it is core to everything we do. We believe it leads to the best educational outcomes for our favourite customers - kids! We value effective teamwork, collaboration, and autonomy - fundamentally we know the best people to make the decisions are those closest to the problem and we encourage this across the company. We value creativity, endless curiosity and encourage our teams to respectfully challenge the work and each other for a better output. Above all we value diversity - in whatever form that may manifest - our creative output is stronger for it.
