For more information, visit: centreforskills.ca The Opportunity Job Number: 429 Job Title: Workplace Language Training (WLT) Program Lead / Job Developer Department: Language Training and Settlement Services (LTSS) Location: Burlington 4 days per week/ Virtual 1 day per week Start Date: October 2024 End Date: August 2025 (with possibility of extension pending funding renewal) Hours of Work: Full-time (35 hours / week) Schedule: Monday to Friday The Workplace Language Training (WLT) Program Lead / Job Developer is responsible for coordinating, managing, and promoting customer service and skilled trades language programs, providing clients with direct support for new job opportunities and building strong connections with participants, employers and both internal and external stakeholders. The WLT Lead/Job Developer will design and facilitate relevant group workshops, provide one on one counselling, deliver information sessions and presentations on topics related to job search, career planning, self-assessment and/or labour market research, and oversee a small team. These are your responsibilities: Program Oversight · Act as the WLT program “expert” in the skilled trades and customer service industry area; stay up to date on current labour market, resources, local newcomer-serving agencies and trends · Supervise and mentor language instructors and administrative staff · Represent Centre for Skills at employer focused events and at newcomer partnership meetings · Create and administer program evaluations and conduct follow up with alumni · Design and help deliver workshops to provide one-on-one coaching and group facilitation to participants on topics related to job search, career planning, self-assessment and/or labour market research within the skilled trades and customer service sectors · Organize special events such as job fairs and employer guest speaking engagements to provide networking opportunities for participants and overall program enhancement Intake and Program Delivery · Execute program administrative tasks such as program registration, candidate screening and selection, attendance, and internal and external reporting including performing needs assessments and utilize Common Assessment Tools to register clients under Employment Services · Assist clients with their job search, resumes and researching education/training needs · Use Common Assessment Tool to assess individuals’ Employment Service and Life Stabilization needs · Provide one-on-one support for job matching and advocate for clients to assist them in securing interviews and employment, working closely with the workforce development specialists and draw upon employer contacts to include engagement and participation in the overall program development and delivery · Collaborate with the Workforce Development team, including attending weekly team meetings, to help clients make connections to employers · Provide ongoing support to clients post-employment by conducting follow-ups and offering resources for job retention, career development, and advancement opportunities · Maintain Case Notes and documentation of client engagement, progress of completion of plan items from Employment Action Plans and documentation of client progress and results · Liaise with support teams, Employment Specialists, Settlement Information Specialists, and other Centre for Skills team members to best address clients’ needs and career-related goals · Case conference with internal employment services, settlement team and language instructors as needed to assist clients in identifying and applying for meaningful employment opportunities, ensuring client needs are being met including assessing financial and support needs that are barriers to employment to determine if client supports are appropriate; process expenditures as required · Conduct research on career planning, job searching, and employment related topics within the WLT project to keep clients informed and up to date · Act as the “go-to” for participants seeking assistance with accessing the labour market and create connections with employers in their career path field What you need to bring to this job: · Post-secondary degree or diploma (Career Development Practitioner diploma/certificate an asset) · 3+ years of related experience in a similar role working with newcomers within any of the following areas; o Job Development and employer outreach o Employment counselling/job readiness programming o Return to Work/Second Career programs · Experience supervising a team preferred · Knowledge and experience with Motivational Interviewing, Solution-focused Counselling, and the Common Assessment Tool and/or similar model for conducting intake assessments · Understanding of the Canadian Language Benchmarks and Language Assessment Centre processes an asset · Proven ability to build and maintain long-term trusted relationships with employers · Comfort with cold calling, delivering presentations, conducting in person / phone meetings with employers · Broad-based knowledge of current labour market trends and community services relating to employment, training, job retention, mental health, disability, Ontario Works, newcomers/ESL, etc. · Demonstrated ability to work in a key performance indicator (KPI) model · Proven ability to operate independently while demonstrating a high level of integrity and professionalism · Strong organizational and time management skills; able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment · Excellent interpersonal, communication and teamwork skills · Culturally sensitive; experience working with clients from a diverse background · Excellent knowledge of current software applications such Zoom, MS Teams, Microsoft Suite, Google apps.
