Our organization: The Alberta Securities Commission is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. The Information Technology (IT) team is responsible for making sure that the ASC has the appropriate resources necessary to ensure the consistent, reliable and secure delivery of services, and understanding and anticipating the organization’s unique technology requirements. The opportunity: Reporting to the IT Manager, the Senior Systems Developer will design, build, customize and implement innovative, functional and cost-effective IT systems using web-enabled tools and off-the-shelf applications to meet the needs of the business. This role requires a deep understanding of Microsoft 365 applications such as SharePoint Online, Teams, One Drive and Power Platform, as well as advanced problem-solving skills Key responsibilities include: Using programming skills and modern development tools to create custom or customised quality, technically sophisticated solutions. Considering “buy or build” options to deliver the best solution to a problem. Evaluating, selecting and implementing commercial, off-the shelf software (COTS) if applicable. Collaborating with stakeholders to design and deliver comprehensive IT solutions, leveraging Microsoft products such as SharePoint Online, Power Platform, and Azure, to address complex business challenges. Utilizing advanced knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint Online to create custom solutions, develop and support intranet, team and project sites, and enhance collaboration across the organization. Utilizing PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI and Adobe Sign to develop streamlined business processes and data-driven applications that drive efficiency and productivity. Implementing best practices recommended by Microsoft for SharePoint governance, architecture, and solution design, ensuring a stable and scalable environment. Supporting, maintaining and extending the ASC’s external, cloud-based websites (Sitecore and WordPress). Supporting and maintaining existing SharePoint and Power Platform applications. Working closely with business partners to understand and participate in business requirements definition, technical design, development, testing, and implementation. Troubleshooting, identifying and resolving technical problems. Providing expertise and second-level support of systems implemented. Documenting solution design, configuration and custom code. Collaborating with IT team members in any technical capacity when the need arises, even if outside primary competencies. The ideal candidate will possess: A post-secondary education and/or technical certification, plus 10 plus years of relevant experience. Expertise in SharePoint Online, SharePoint Framework (SPFx), Power Apps and Power Automate. Experience with Adobe Sign eSignature platform and its integration into applications using Power Automate. Proficiency in development tools such as SPFx, React JS, Typescript, HTML, SCSS, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, REST API. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud services. Experience with Azure DevOps. Knowledge of web content management systems: Sitecore, WordPress, Adobe Digital Publishing Suite, or similar. Knowledge of database concepts and technologies, particularly Microsoft SQL Server. Familiarity with one or more Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) models. Strong analytical skills and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills — the ability to clearly express ideas and convey technical information to business stakeholders, both in writing and verbally. Excellent project-management and interpersonal skills. A willingness to learn new skills and take on challenges outside your comfort zone to adapt to changing demands.
